About Father Peter Pappas

The Rev. Peter J. Pappas is a graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology in Brookline, Massachusetts. He also attended St. Vladimir's Orthodox Theological Seminary in Crestwood, New York for a semester on an exchange program between the two schools. Following his theological studies, he spent almost a year at the Ecumenical Patriarchate in Constantinople (Istanbul, Turkey) where he assisted with English correspondence, planning of conferences, and computer support.

Prior to his ordination, Fr. Peter spent some time in Omaha employed in the Information Technology field and served the parish of St. John the Baptist as a chanter, church school teacher, and member of the Parish Council. He was ordained a deacon at the Holy Cross Chapel in Brookline, Massachusetts and to the priesthood at SS. Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church in Glenview, Illinois where he served as the Assistant Pastor.

For six years he was the Pastor of Assumption Greek Orthodox Church in East Moline, Illinois before returning to Omaha to lead the parish of St. John the Baptist. Fr. Peter is the author of "Abortion and Public Policy" published in the St. Vladimir's Theological Quarterly (Volumer 39 - Number 3, 1995) and "The Grace of God in Creation: Palamas, Cabasilas, and Sacramental Theology" in The Church and the Library: Studies in Honor of Rev. Dr. George C. Papademetriou edited by Dean Papademetriou and Andrew J. Sopko (Boston: Somerset Hall Press, 2005).

Fr. Peter, together with his family, is eager to share the gift of a living faith in Christ and the treasures of Orthodoxy with other families for the growth of our community to the glory of God.
