Three prayers are read which affirms the sanctity of Christian marriage that the bride and groom will begin to share. The Priest joins the right hands of the groom and bride and reads the third prayer that beseeches God to join these thy servants, unite them in one mind and one flesh.
The right hand signifies that it is the right hand of God which blesses, it is the right of the Father that Christ ascended, and it is the right that those who will inherit eternal life will go. The hands remain joined throughout the service to symbolize the oneness of the couple.
