Church Holidays of the Lord are considered Feast Days when fasting is prohibited, as are Saturdays and Sundays (in honor of the Resurrection). On Feast Days that occur during fast periods, the fasting is lightened so that fish, wine, and olive oil are permitted.
Fasting is prohibited on the following dates:
The first week of the Triodion, from Sunday of the Publican and the Pharisee through Sunday of the Prodigal Son, including Wednesday and Friday.
Diakainisimos (or Bright) Week, following the Sunday of Pascha.
The week following Pentecost.
From the Feast of the Nativity of the Lord - December 25 through January 4.
