Destination Midtown Block Party

Merchants and restaurateurs from Midtown Omaha will showcase an exciting array of unique products, foods and services during the first annual Destination Midtown Block Party, which will be held August 26, 2006, on the grounds of the UNMC Student Life Center, 3970 Jones Street. The first event of its kind, the Destination Midtown Block Party shopping and entertainment experience serves to expose Omaha families to the many treasures of Midtown.

Special events include the launch of the Destination Midtown Discount Thursday Program.. Visitors will also be able to learn about the many services provided by Midtown non-profit and community-based organizations.

Midtown readies for block party
Midtown merchants are gearing up for their first block party.
The Saturday event, hosted by Destination Midtown, will feature products and food from at least 20 local merchants.
The group also will kick off a weekly discount program that will run Aug. 31 through Jan. 4. Every Thursday, area businesses will offer special sales.
"We're hoping that visitors who attend the event will find new Midtown favorites to come back and shop at more often," said Executive Director Tawanna Black.
The block party begins at 10 a.m. at the University of Nebraska Medical Center's Student Life Center parking lot. .

Backyard: All invited to party hearty in midtown
Destination Midtown is having a block party Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. to highlight merchants, restaurants and service providers doing business in midtown Omaha.
The event will showcase more than 20 merchants and restaurateurs in display booths set up in the parking lot of the University of Nebraska Medical Center's Student Life Center, 39th and Jones Streets.
"It promises to be exciting, enlightening and fun for the whole family," said Tawanna Black, executive director of Destination Midtown, "and it will serve to expose Omahans to the many treasures midtown has to offer."
The event also will kick off the Destination Midtown "Discount Thursdays" program, which features special price breaks and offers available on Thursdays from participating midtown businesses.
Destination Midtown is a partnership involving residents, businesses, educational institutions and organizations in the area of 24th Street and Saddle Creek Road, from Center to Cuming Streets.
Forum topic: desire named streetcar
A public forum to discuss the possibility of bringing streetcars to Omaha will be Aug. 30 at the Nebraska Medical Center.
The forum is sponsored by Omaha Streetcar, a nonprofit organization that includes private citizens, community groups, institutions, businesses and public agencies.
Organization President Gerald Kopiasz will speak at the forum, along with Chris Redfield, director of condo sales for NP Dodge Real Estate Co., and Keith Jones, executive director of the Central Arkansas Transit Authority.
The forum will begin at 7 p.m. in the Storz Pavilion in the Clarkson Tower at the Medical Center, 42nd Street and Dewey Avenue. Participants are asked to RSVP online to www.omaha streetcar.com.
Dundee event grows to Days
Dundee Day expands to Dundee Days and is set for this weekend in the Dundee business district, centered at 50th Street and Underwood Avenue.
The annual event is sponsored by the Dundee Merchants Association in cooperation with the Dundee-Memorial Park Association.
This year's activities have been expanded to Friday night, with a country music street dance and refreshments beginning at 6 p.m. on Underwood Avenue between 50th and 51st Streets.
Saturday's activities will begin with the Pancake Man serving breakfast from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the parking lot of Trovato's Italian Restaurant, 5013 Underwood Ave.
The parade begins at 10:30 a.m. at Memorial Park, east of the Rose Garden, and will proceed along Underwood Avenue to 51st Street.
The street festival will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with arts and crafts displays, artists' exhibits, vendor booths, refreshments and kids' activities.
Music on Saturday will begin at 1 p.m. A flamenco guitarist and salsa dancers will perform at 3 p.m. Evening entertainment will begin at 5 p.m. with a variety of musical groups and a beer garden.
Play audience will dine, solve slaying
The Florentine Players' Murder Mystery Dinner Theater will present "Next of Kin" this weekend at Florence City Hall, 2864 State St.
Showtime is 6:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The audience will participate in solving the murder mystery.
